PARCC Score Reports available later this fall
PARCC (Partnership for Assessment of Readiness for College and Careers) tests were taken during the 2014-2015 school year. Statewide data was released in September; however, details about school or student performance have not been released to schools yet. The Illinois State Board of Education (ISBE) has promised to provide reports of student performance available to students, parents, schools and the public, later this fall. Recent information indicates that high school reports may be made available in November, while reports for students in grades 3-8 may be ready in December.
What will these reports tell us?
PARCC score reports from ISBE will explain to parents how students are progressing toward readiness for college or careers. The New Illinois Learning Standards, which align with PARCC and the National Common Core State Standards (NCCSS) set these expectations for readiness in the areas of English Language Arts and Mathematics. In addition to raw scores, student performance on the first round of PARCC will be described in 5 categories:
Level 1: Did Not Yet Meet Expectations Level 2: Partially Met Expectations Level 3: Approached Expectations | Level 4: Met Expectations Level 5: Exceeded Expectations |
It is very important to remember that this is the first time such information will be available to students, teachers, and schools. Comparing this information to previous test results would be like comparing apples and oranges - the two assessments measure different levels of performance in very different ways. This data will be used by educators in our schools to focus our continuous improvement efforts to help students perform at higher levels in the future.
ISBE has developed its PARCC Place website to help inform educators, parents, and community members about score interpretation and other developments related to PARCC testing. More information will be discussed in future posts. Parents can read more information by downloading ISBE's announcements and other information, below.
